Nedra Talley was born on June 23, 1946 in New York City. She grew up in Spanish Harlem with her parents and two sisters, Ronnie and Estelle. Her father was a steelworker and her mother worked as a seamstress. At age nine she began singing with her sisters at local clubs and talent shows.
In 1961, Phil Spector heard them singing at a club called “The Peppermint Lounge” in New York City and invited them to join his record label Philles Records as “The Ronettes”. From then on they had great success with their songs reaching high positions on music charts throughout the world. However due to internal conflicts within the group it disbanded by 1968 after releasing only three albums together over five years.
