Kane life history
Kane was the eldest of three children born in the Akron suburb of Barberton, Ohio. When she was nine years old, her family relocated from Ohio to Santa Barbara, California, where she grew up tailoring and attending as many fashion-related lessons as she could.
Karen Kane began her design career at 19 after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles. Her first employment was as a junior sportswear pattern maker. Lonnie, her husband, and eventual business partner encountered Kane there. Karen and Lonnie married in 1979 and founded the first organization called Menswear.
It was not so far from the Studio City garage. Initially, the brand was only available at smaller specialty stores. Still, as the line gained in popularity, it was picked up by department stores such as Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Dillard’s, Belk, and Von Maur, as well as online retailers such as Best Buy, Gwynnie Bee, Lord & Taylor, Wolf & Badger, and large national specialty stores.
The company’s owner is a true philanthropist. She not only allegedly raised $2 million in 2015 from sales of her special clothing item, but she also claimed that she was seeking for needy people to spend it. Some funds were used to purchase furniture and cover a year’s rent for a jobless single mother and handicapped veteran from her town.
She also purchased a minivan for a household that had lost their house in a fire and offered a five-bedroom home to a family of 11 for a year. Chainz attributes her philanthropic spirit never to remembering the difficulties she had as a child:
“I remember when we didn’t have hot water and I didn’t want my friends to know, so I told them it was something wrong with that bathroom and they couldn’t use my momma, and I remember using the oven to warm the home, and I would stand in the kitchen for hours to remain warm,” she explained.
