Jonny Gomes was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2001 and made his major league debut with the team in 2003. During his first season he hit.216 with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs. Over the next four seasons he saw limited playing time with the Devil Rays, but still managed to hit 28 home runs. In 2007 he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds where he had a breakout season, hitting 24 home runs and driving in 84 runs while batting.267.
Gomes remained with the Reds for two more seasons before signing as a free agent with the Washington Nationals in 2010. He played just one season for Washington before being traded to the Oakland Athletics in 2011. With Oakland, Gomes had his best offensive season of his career, hitting 18 home runs and driving in 47 runs while batting.262.
Gomes signed a two-year deal with the Boston Red Sox prior to the 2013 season and helped lead them to their third World Series title since 2004. He hit 13 home runs during that championship run and was awarded a World Series ring after helping Boston defeat St Louis Cardinals 4-2 in Game 6 of the Fall Classic.
In 2015, Gomes signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Braves but was traded to Kansas City Royals midway through that season. He helped lead Kansas City to their second World Series title since 1985 by hitting three home runs during their championship run against New York Mets and was awarded another World Series ring.
