John Welbourn was born on October 22nd, 1975 in Los Angeles, California. He grew up playing football and baseball as a child and went on to be a standout athlete at the University of California Berkeley where he earned All-Pac 10 honors three times as well as being named the Pac 10 Defensive Player of the Year in 1998. After college, Welbourn was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 12th overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft.
